Ginny Peace Interiors now run one day soft furnishing courses from Ginny's beautiful home in Cranbrook. Learn creative curtain making and soft furnishing in an enjoyable and relaxing environment. These first class training courses include all materials as well as coffee on arrival, a two course home made lunch and afternoon tea. Small workshops in beautiful Cranbrook in Kent are limited to a maximum of 4 to ensure that everyone gets the right amount of attention. One to one courses and intensive/tailor made courses can be arranged - please email for details.

One day soft furnishing courses cost £95 (except the Box Cushions day which costs £105) and include lunch, materials and a set of comprehensive training notes to take away with you.

  • Introduction to Curtain Making
  • How to make interlined Curtains with Hand Sewn Headings
  • Making Roman Blinds
  • Cushions making

The day commences at 9.30am and finishes around 5.00pm
These soft furnishing courses are based in Cranbrook, Kent and each training class size is limited to 4 to ensure that all attendees receive personal attention.

Soft furnishing - Introduction to curtain making

Learn how to measure a window for curtains, discuss design ideas for a window treatment, choose an appropriate heading, calculate fabric requirements, pattern matching, cut out fabric and linings, attach pencil pleat tape. Working on a sample you will make a lined and interlined curtain.

Soft furnishing - Interlined curtains with hand pleated headings

This course follows on from the Introduction to Curtain making for those who want to learn advanced techniques, but can also be taken as a separate soft furnishing course for those with some experience. Please call if in doubt!

Learn all the techniques used to create lined and interlined curtains with hand pleated headings including: calculating pleat sizes for triple pleat and goblet headings, the use of buckram in a heading, creating pleats, and completing the curtains with the attachment of pin hooks. You will learn how to make sample curtains showing examples as above.

Soft furnishing - Roman blinds

On this course you will learn to design and make a hand sewn roman blind. The course includes calculating fabric and pleat spaces for rod pockets and you will make a sample roman blind.

Soft furnishing - Pelmets and Tiebacks

Learn how to design and cover a flat pelmet to be fitted over curtains or roman blinds and a pair of shaped tiebacks to complete the finished look of your room scheme.

Learn how to make a simple piped and zipped scatter cushion and an envelope style cushion with covered buttons on this one day course. Techniques taught include making and covering piping, inserting zips and covering buttons.

Soft furnishing - Box/Bench Seat Cushions and Bolsters

This course can be taken as a follow on from the previous Scatter Cushion day or separately.

The techniques taught include all of those taught in the previous course.

Learn to make a box cushion for a bench or chair, and then a decorative bolster cushion.

With over 15 years experience for running her own successful curtain and interior design business Ginny is well placed to offer tips and guidance on how to start and run your own home based business. Learn from her some of the pitfalls that can be avoided in the beginning as she shares her invaluable expertise and guidance all gained from personal experience.  Help with finding trade suppliers and accounts, preparation of estimates and invoices, running projects, managing cashflow and simple accounting will all be covered. The day will take place in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere with the usual delicious food all included!
